Description
Banana split is an ice cream dessert. In its traditional form, it is served in a long bowl called a boat. The banana was cut in half along its length (hence the name) and placed in a bowl. There are many variations, but the classic Banana Split is made with three scoops of ice cream (one each of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry) between the sliced bananas. Sauce or sauces (chocolate, strawberry and caramel are traditional) are sprinkled on ice cream, then crushed crumbs (mostly peanuts or walnuts) and whipped cream (optional), and maraschino cherries are added to all this.
